Travel to Mexico | Destination Wedding Photographer

My husband and I had a chance to go to Mexico a few days earlier than we needed for a destination wedding we were documenting at the Secrets the Vine in Cancun. It happened to be his spring break, our kids, and his mother's also! So of course we went and left the kids with her :D {thank you Linda!} It also happened that - it was near our anniversary! How serendipitous!

What you may not know is that - in starting my business, it was always my intention to have it be a husband and wife team.You see, when Charlie and I first started dating, he was into taking photos more than me! He would carry his film camera everywhere. Two kinds of film cameras, actually. One was a 35 mm and the other this point and shoot film camera with a remote! Together we had a growing collection of vintage cameras - film & polaroid. Anyway, fast forward to now and he occasionally shoots with me - when I need him most {I do wish we could shoot together more often}. Which is when I need a fluent Spanish speaker who happens to take great photos too. Oh yeah, it's also kinda nice to be around him too ;)

Anyhoo...

We traveled to Cancun Mexico and decided not to rent a car to get around. We mostly traveled by bus! Having Charlie was super duper helpful since he speaks Spanish fluently. I happen to be able to understand it quite well, but can't for the life of me speak it very well. This made it quite easy to get around and explore, ask questions, directions or best/less touristy places to check out too. We had booked everything online via Travelocity {including our flights!}- which was my first experience with the site and it worked out pretty well. I was a little nervous booking the hotel through them because when I had booked, it was just starting to get built and only had one review. But by the time our trip was a month away, Elements Tulum Boutique Hotel received several more great reviews & ratings. And they are well deserved. It is a small hotel but within walking distance to the town and you can reach the beach by bike, which they let you borrow.

We found a great little street that we kept going back to for restaurants, drinks and- especially for the coffee, which we found out was previously mentioned in a Travel+Leisure article! Sadly we only spent two days in Tulum before we had to head back to Cancun to prep for the wedding and get to work. Haha, sadly...I mean yeah, I wish we could have stayed longer but, the resort wasn't half bad either ;) The only thing that was really rough was - still maintaining our keto diet

So here are a few photos that we took. Mostly Charlie took.  I decided I wanted to adventure more than take photos. I did take some on my phone which I posted to a new account on instgram for our travels.

These photos were mostly taken on our walk from our hotel to that street I mentioned above, to get our morning coffee. We tried to take a selfie with our camera instead of our phone - and...it didn't work out too well. Don't mind me in them...I tend to make funny faces a lot, when the camera is pointed at me.

After heading home and seeing our kids - it was nice to be home again, but it definitely had me keep checking on where to go next. We will definitely be coming back to visit and I hope to be traveling more in the future!

He was so cool and spoke at least 6 different languages! Yes, 6. English, Spanish, French, German {he is German, by the way}, Polish and is learning Japanese. And him speaking these different languages weren't like - in broken forms of the language either. He could easily switch from English to Spanish and then to French. We met him on our tour to Chichén Itzá. Which was a loooooong day but was pretty spectacular. Swimming in a cenote {although we saw two} and then visiting the ruins and learning about the Mayans and the language {someone hopped on our lil tour bus/van to give us some insight and sell us some things...I kinda wish we bought something {our wedding date in Mayan script}, just cause he did a great job and - well, it was his gig}
