Frequently Asked Questions

What comes with my session fee?  Your session fee includes: a pre-session consultation to get to know you and personalize your session {in person, via email or phone}, time & talent of photographer, post processing with custom editing and enhancements, along with your own private online gallery of the edited images to view, share and order from. This gallery is hosted for 14 days, and backed up for at least 30 days, unless otherwise noted. Session fee only option does not include and prints or other products such as digital images or files, unless otherwise noted on your contract.

Digital sessions - half or full session options do include session time, post processing of images AND your edited high resolution gallery images available as a download and are backed up for at least 90 days and hosted for 60 days.

All sessions are done on location, either at your home or at a location of your choice within 50 miles roundtrip of 94607. All locations I recommend will either be within this mileage or be included in your package.

Professional Make-up & Hair as well as wardrobe styling can be added to any session for an additional fee of $150. Please inquire regarding rates.

How do I book a session? Simple, just contact me - YAY! Once you pay your non-refundable retainer fee and complete your session agreement, your session date will be reserved on my calendar. Keep in mind that sessions are by appointment only. Weekends are highly sought after and book up quickly! Please contact me with my availability and every effort will be made to accommodate your scheduling needs.

How far in advance are you booked? It all depends.  During times of promotional offers, I may be booked at least 6-8 weeks in advanced. Please contact me to check my availability.

Do you accept cash/checks/credit cards? Yes, all of them. I accept credit cards thru PayPal and or even PopMoney- if you are with a Bay Area Credit Union. I do accept checks if the session is at least 3 weeks out. Checks must be cleared by the session date. Additional fees will be applied for any returned checks.

Where will my session take place? Sessions can take place at your home or at an agreed location, like your favorite park, neighborhood/area or other local spot.

It looks overcast.  Should we reschedule our session? No. Most folks assume that a sunny day makes for a great photo session, but that's actually not the case.  Bright sunny days, give off harsh lighting and will cause some squinting and no one wants photos of them squinting. Besides, we live in the bay area, and can make due with whatever weather we've got, sometimes its overcast at the beginning of the session then it becomes sunny so, you just never know. So don't worry, I'll make sure to keep a look out on the forecast for our day and let you know if we do need to reschedule.

We can't have the session at our house since it's too small/messy/has poor light. You don't have a studio? At this time I don't have a studio, but it is in the works. But let me just say this - I have kids, and with kids it is inevitable that we amass an amount of stuff that can be hard to put back in their places sometimes, and that's ok. Sometimes we don't have enough time to get to all the laundry, or the dishes. It happens, and sometimes it happens often. And that's ok too! No worries, no stress. It's all good. Plus, I used to live in a shoebox in SF with my then boyfriend (now husband). You could take two steps from the bedroom/livingroom and be in the kitchen, six steps and you're in the bathroom. It's not about the space, it doesn't have to define you, but it can help tell your story. Besides, there's always cropping or photoshop ;)

What should I wear? It all depends on what you are trying to achieve. Most importantly, be you. If you normally don't wear dresses or jeans, don't choose our session to start wearing them. I want you to be comfortable and you won't be comfortable if you wear something you are not used to. As a general rule, simple clothes and solid colors work best, but don't be afraid to choose fun colors either, but avoid neon and bright white clothing. I would advise to wear complimentary colors but don't coordinate outfits that are too matchy-matchy. Please refrain from wearing any items with brands or logos.

My kid likes to wear his pajamas all. the. time. and heck, I will take photos of him just like that - because that really defines who he is at 4 years old, but then again I am not a traditional portrait photographer. Anyway, generally dark colors are slimming while light colors, like all white will add a few unwanted pounds.

Can we have an outfit change? Yes, but understand that outfit changes will take away from the actual shooting time we have and too many may also wear people out. Which will make for not so great photos. But hey, I'm up for it, if you are!

Can I bring a friend or family member who isn't going to be part of the photographs to our session? I would say no, it's not ideal. Too many on-lookers will be distracting. If you have family out of town and they will need to accompany you, then I understand. But I may ask them to assist me then! Thanks!

How soon after the session will I be able to see my photos? Your private online gallery of images should be available within 4-6 weeks from your session date. You will however, receive sneak peeks form posts on my blog or Facebook page within 1 week from our session- if you have agreed that this was okay. Please be sure to like my page so I can tag you. Your private online gallery will be available to you for 14 days, unless otherwise noted. You can share the gallery with family & friends and even have them order prints directly from the site. If after your gallery has expired, and you would still like to make a purchase of additional digital images, prints or view the gallery for an additional 7 days, a $25 fee will be charged.

Can you remove a boo-boo/blemish/scar/wrinkles? Can you do some retouching? Yes, but I generally don't do much retouching as I like to remain true to reality as much as possible. Don't worry, you will still look radiant and beautiful, because you already are. I will do some minor touch ups if it is something that won't be there tomorrow or next week. I do believe scars give an individual character and can tell a remarkable story. However, I understand it is a personal choice and I will be sensitive to your needs and requests. If you would like me to remove large scars or blemishes, I'll be understanding and do the work, but since this work can be time consuming, additional charges will apply. We can discuss this during our initial consultation.

Do you edit all the images and do all the post processing?  Yes, I do all of the post processing and custom editing of each and every image to ensure that each image gets my stamp of approval and unique treatment. The only thing I outsource is the printing, which goes out to a high quality professional lab.

Do you offer morning, afternoon or evening sessions? While I can't control the sun, I do prefer natural light. However, I do have experience & equipment to shoot with artificial light as well and don't mind using them if it is necessary. So the time of day doesn't matter to me.

How far along should I be for my maternity portraits? It depends. Are you announcing your pregnancy with these photos? If that is the case, then generally speaking being at a minimum of 12 weeks would be ideal. If you want to show more of that gorgeous baby bump, then being at 34 weeks, if this is your first baby, is a good time and if this is not your first, then as early as 30-32 weeks would be fine, as many women feel they show earlier with subsequent pregnancies. Maternity sessions can take some extra time & planning if you would like a more styled photo session. I do offer the Glam & Pamper sessions that include professional hair & makeup as well as wardrobe selection & styling,  if you want that magazine look while being pampered and be well taken care of, visit my Glam page for more details.

I recently got engaged, do you do only engagement sessions or weddings too? Awesome - CONGRATS! And Yes, I do both engagements AND weddings! I know that every wedding is different as is every couple, so I would love to tailor a package that is just right for you. You can visit my wedding page for details, or simply contact me and let's chat.

When is the best time to take newborn photographs? The ideal age for newborn photographs is during the first 2 weeks of life, ideally between 5 - 10 days new. After this age, babies are more alert and will be less sleepy and poseable. So if you are expecting your first baby now, and know you want those cute sleepy poses then by all means book me now! Contact me, please :)

What is a print release/printing rights? A print release gives you permission and the right to make unlimited prints of the images from our session for your personal use only, but I will remain the copyright owner and holder of the images taken from our session. I will give you a signed release for the digital images you have purchased to make prints for your personal use to take to your preferred printing lab or print at home. Please know that I cannot guarantee the quality of the prints if you choose to print elsewhere. My recommended and preferred consumer labs are MPIX & Nations Photo Lab.

Do I have to sign a model release? Yes and no. Yes, so that I can use your beautiful photos to showcase and have prospective clients view my talent and abilities on my website. It is to cover your rights and is a legal binding contract between you as the client/model or parent of the minor and the photographer. I always respect my clients' rights to privacy and can use only approved images on my website and promotional materials. However, if you must not have any images used, a confidentiality agreement can be signed and agreed upon.

What is a Copyright? "Copyright exists from the moment the work is created and is granted to the original creator. Copyright is a form of protection grounded in the U.S. Constitution and granted by law for original works of authorship fixed in a tangible medium of expression."  For further explanation, please visit here. What type of camera do you use?  Ah, the dreaded question of gear. I use professional full frame Nikon cameras and have backup cameras as well as other professional equipment, such as lenses and flash units. I am a member of NPS {Nikon Professional Services} and have my gear regularly cleaned and maintained for each wedding season through them.

Are you licensed & insured?  Yes, of course! I am licensed in the City of Oakland as a legitimate professional business and carry  business, equipment & liability insurance. I also pay my taxes as a business (and as an individual)!
