So why do an engagement session? You may find you don't want to do any because you think - 1) you two are shy and awkward in front of the camera {trust me, everyone says this and feels this way - especially us photographers when we get in front of cameras!} 2) we'll have enough photos on our wedding day and  you may think you're pretty good with that selfie stick.. Well, aside from providing you with crisp, in focus beautiful professional portraits, an engagement session allow us to get to know each other before the big day. Knowing what to expect from your chosen photographer and feeling relaxed and comfortable in front of the camera are essential for getting great images of you two. During the engagement session, my method of posing is to simply hang out with you two, ask questions and see how you two naturally interact with each other. I may prompt you to do something, like grab hands and to walk over to a certain spot - most likely by some very flattering light. I may also tell terrible corny jokes to get some natural smiles and giggles from you. And oh - yeah, I will probably ask you two to kiss - you should be used to that by now though, right? If you two aren't used to PDAs and are a little more introverted or shy - that's ok too! Do what is natural and comfortable. Maybe it's just a peck on the cheek or a long loving embrace. I won't ask you to do anything you aren't comfortable with and if I do - just let me know. Part of a great engagement session is being able to speak freely and communicate with one another and to me- of what feels comfortable and feels right. And that's it! When your wedding comes around, we'll have already practiced picture-taking together and you'll have become more at ease and know what to expect from me.

Things to know about our Engagement Sessions:

• Engagement sessions typically last two hours and are scheduled at least 1.5 hours before sunset
• Sessions can include two outfit changes {more if there is time, but two is ideal}
• We recommend up to 2 locations to keep things simple
• Make sure to bring the ring!
• Try wearing complementary colors rather than matching ones
• If accessories are your thing - then bring them! {a signature bag, hat or scarves and of course jewelry}
• Bring a few pairs of shoes for different terrain {i.e. something fancy, a pair of cute flats and something comfortable to walk in}
• Men - leave the white socks at home!
• Remember to bring a coat or something warm too
• Try to avoid large logos or brand symbols on clothing
• A questionnaire will be sent to get to know a little more about the two of you and how we can have an amazing session together!

Read about my previous article on choosing your engagement session location here. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. If you are engaged and would like to know more about my wedding photography packages - please visit my wedding photography service page here and get in touch! I'd love to meet with the two of you and talk more about your love story.

Ready for your engagement or couple's session? You don't have to be engaged to get some lovely photos of the two of you, you just have to be in love.
